Pulitzer
prize-winning Suzan-Lori Parks committed to writing a
play a day for the next 365 days. The world premiere of
this play cycle will be performed as a yearlong national
festival simultaneously in major cities and communities
around the country. From November 13, 2006 to November
12, 2007, over 600 theaters in Atlanta and Los Angeles
through Washington D.C., Chicago, and New York will
create the largest theater collaboration in U.S.
History.
The
Public Theatre spearhead the New York component of 365
Days Plays
by gathering together a widely diverse cross-section of
over 75 New York theater companies to participate in
this project. Throughout the year, the selected theaters
will perform their works from the imagination of one of
America's leading playwrights in various locations
throughout the city.
The plays can be staged readings or fully produced –
but all
must celebrate New York’s tradition of a collaboration
of audiences and artists from every corner of the city.
In addition
to these presentations, at the end of each month,
participants
will be invited to share their work in a free public
performance
at The
Public Theater.

WHAT IS 365 DAYS/365 PLAYS?
365 Days/365 Plays started in
November 2002 when Suzan-Lori Parks committed to writing a
play a day for the next 365 days. From Nov 13, 2006– Nov
12, 2007 the 365 Days/365 Plays National Festival will
present the work simultaneously across the country,
creating the largest collaboration in the history of
American theater.
In New York City, The Public Theater will spearhead
365NYC. Over the course of this year, up to 65 selected
theater companies – curated by The Public and the 365
Days/365 Plays National Festival – will perform these
brief, brilliant plays.
HOW DOES 365NYC WORK?
1. Each week, selected theater
companies will produce one week’s worth of plays, each
ranging from one to five pages in length.
2. The plays may be performed in one night or over the
course of the entire week. That, in addition to where and
how they are pro-
duced, is up to each participating company.
3. Locations for performances include community gardens,
parks, cafés, bars, performing arts venues and theaters
across the five boroughs.
4. Reservations for any 365 NYC presentation are
determined by each participating company. Visit individual
companies’ websites for more information.
